WASHINGTON, May 11, 2022 – Networking For Future (NFF) announced today that, as part of the expansion of their education practice, they partnered with the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) to build a state of-the-art Esports and gaming center at the Van Ness campus. The new UDC facility was initiated after extensive collaboration with NFF, a performance-focused IT solutions provider.

UDC recognized that an investment in an Esports program anchors their mission to build more recession-resistant careers, as UDC works to cultivate future-proof leaders. A primary component of UDC’s commitment to Esports included a substantial investment in a leading-edge Esports facility.

UDC and NFF partnered to design their state-of-the-art gaming and Esports center. NFF engineered and implemented a secure, high performance, and fully redundant network specifically configured to support the real-time demands of Esports competitions. Additional components included ultra-high-definition monitors, a video wall to watch live game play, and an immersive sound system allowing viewers to feel more engaged in the gaming experience.

Esports is one of the fastest growing activities in the world with 175 colleges and universities joining the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) and offering officially recognized varsity Esports programs. According to an annual report on the industry, the total global Esports audience grew to 495 million people with revenue in excess of $1.1 billion in 2020, up 15.7 percent from 2019, and a projected audience of 646 million by 2023, surpassing viewership of the NFL.

“Many of today’s students will work in jobs that have not yet been created,” commented Mike Rogers, education practice lead at NFF. “By establishing an Esports program, universities and colleges, like UDC, are imagining new ways to increase the involvement and interest of their student communities in technology, while reinforcing the principals of collegiate athletics: teamwork, leadership, discipline, and strategic thinking.”
