Introducing Steven Hancock, NFF’s new Vice President of Sales, Technology Solutions

NFF is proud to announce the addition of Steven Hancock as the Vice President of Sales, Technology Solutions. Steven will use his expertise and knowledge to assist NFF with accomplishing its sales and marketing goals and the associated strategic planning, process optimization, mentoring and training objectives.

Steven has over 20 years of experience in the IT industry in positions of increasing responsibility. He started as a Sales Manager, worked in Business Development, and later became a Regional Sales Director.  For the past ten years he has been responsible for leading large sales teams at XO Communications, COX Business Services, and most recently Comcast Business. At Comcast Business, he lead five sales managers and 40 sales representatives covering Washington DC, MD, Virginia and West Virginia. During his tenure at Comcast he was responsible for sales profit and loss, and aligned revenue and operating expenses to achieve operating cash flow targets. Steven has a proven track record of successful sales management. During his 4 year tenure at COX, he grew revenue by $23 million and over the past two years at Comcast he grew revenue over $12 million. Steven holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Washington and Lee University.

During his leisure time, Steven enjoys cycling and spending time at the beach with his wife. We look forward to Steven’s leadership of the sales department and we are convinced that his enthusiasm and expertise will be an asset to the whole team, bringing us closer to accomplishing our goals.

Successful Network Migration

Recently NFF engineers and CSSI’s IT team migrated CSSI’s IT application services from their headquarters office location, to new infrastructure located in a highly available colocation datacenter. The NFF team carefully coordinated this complex move with the datacenter provider and customer, CSSI.

The actual production move took place in one day. The true effort occurred over the last twelve months with careful installation, staging, configuration, and testing of the new infrastructure and technology. After defining the need and requirements the team developed a comprehensive plan, conducted provider evaluations and selections including multiple site visits, procured equipment, determined timing, sent employee communications, prepared final checklists and conducted pre-production migrations to the new infrastructure. This paid dividends as the team was well prepared to handle any unanticipated situations. It was truly a team effort with all business partners involved.

As part of the new technology in the colocation environment, NFF is providing CSSI with an ongoing Application Performance Management (APM) service. This service provides a level of insight for CSSI into their application performance, metrics, and network traffic behavior they have never had before. CSSI’s Director of Information Technology, Sam Walker, stated, “I’m truly excited about the deep level of intelligence regarding our application performance the APM service from NFF will provide.  Combined with the efficiencies we will gain from the new infrastructure and data center colocation, the effectiveness of our IT systems and resources will be improved exponentially.”

This operation impacted four different sites in three states, consisting of 300 users. NFF received accolades for executing this infrastructure migration smoothly with minimal impact to current operations.

NFF Wins contract for Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority real-time network monitoring solution

April 2013

NFF was recently awarded a contract for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s (MWAA) real-time network monitoring and visualization project. MWAA selected NFF to procure OPNET’s nCompass product to provide a unified dashboard that will enable them to expedite troubleshooting and reduce network downtime. nCompass allows granular triaging of various network devices through a management dashboard with key performance indicators (KPIs). This will increase staff productivity and availability of business-critical applications.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is governed by a Board of Directors, which consist of 17 members appointed by the Governor of Virginia, Mayor of the District of Columbia, Governor of Maryland and by the President of the United States. MWAA provides airport operation services domestically and internationally for the mid-Atlantic region. MWAA is responsible for managing both Reagan International and Dulles Airports. MWAA has also provided for capital improvements at both airports with major renovations for efficient passenger facilities and Metrorail services. The Airports Authority is currently managing a project to extend Metrorail from the Orange line to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County.

NFF Awarded Contract for District of Columbia Retirement Board Application Traffic Monitoring & Intrusion Prevention Security

March 2013

NFF has been awarded a contract to procure, design, and implement a web traffic monitoring and security solution for the District of Columbia Retirement Board (DCRB). DCRB has chosen NFF to deploy a Cisco Integrated Service Router and Firewall for traffic management and intrusion prevention functionality. NFF’s partnership with OPNET will provide DCRB the ability to proactively monitor all inbound traffic and create management policies for their IT division. 

Cisco and OPNET’s Traffic Monitoring and VPN security management tools allow DCRB to stay FIPS 140-2 L2 compliant. This is very important as their network communicates on a daily basis with U.S. Department of Treasury’s applications.

DCRB was created by U.S. Congress in 1979 as an independent DC Government agency responsible for managing retirement funds for Police Officers, Firefighters, and Teachers in the District. Through consolidating various assets of funds into a single investment package for retirees, DCRB maintains financial records, purchases of service, investment earning, benefit payments, and administrative expenses.
